Jackson Lake Community Clean-ups
Jackson Lake Association Scheduled Cleanups November 2nd 2024
Dates of 2025 JLA cleanups: February 15th, May 10th, Aug 16th, Nov 8th
Since cleanups are scheduled well in advance, if the weather is questionable, please check our Facebook page.
Jackson Lake Association is asking for community involvement to keep our lake clean. Non-members are welcome to participate. JLA will have bottled water on trash boats. Lunch provided around 1 pm to all participants. Meet at the Georgia Power Dam (Lloyd Shoals Park) at 8:30 am to review safety and other information related to the cleanup. We will clean up the shoreline either by boat or by land, depending on the water level and the area to be cleaned. We have three boats and will provide life vests and rubber gloves for all participants.
What you need to bring: Minimum of one adult for every eight minors. Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and bring gloves. It's important to dress for the weather. Please contact Ken White (email above) two weeks before the cleanup date. It's important to let Ken know the number of attendees so he can plan accordingly. JLA will sponsor two or more clean-up events each year. Georgia Power will support the events by providing a roll-off dumpster for any trash collected in Jackson Lake.
The Lake Cleanups are a big part of continuing to keep our waters clean. If you have not seen the JLA page for the trash trap update, check it out here.
JLA boats may be used by members to gather trash in Jackson Lake. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to properly dispose of the trash collected by taking it to the county landfill or transfer station. If trees, logs or large limbs are taken to the Georgia Power ramp, they must be placed on the shoreline or secured, by rope, to the shoreline or adjacent tree.

Georgia Power required procedures for removing trash from Jackson Lake
All property owners should take responsibility for removing trash from their respective properties, be it natural (woody) or man-made debris.
If a tree, log, or large limb is too heavy to manage, the following options are available:
Haul it by boat to an uninhabited or undeveloped area of the lake and secure it to the shore or a tree near the bank.
Large unmanageable logs may be taken by boat to the Georgia Power boat ramp located in the cove where the Georgia Power/ DNR boathouse is located (adjacent to the dam).
Pushing trees and logs away from your property back out into the lake or relocating them to another owner’s property is unacceptable and may result in a citation and/or fine from local law enforcement agencies.
